Sweet Violet (Viola odorata) (27/02/2021) New Hall Lane, Small Dole, Henfield, W Sussex (outside entrance to New Hall). Similar to Hairy Violet but that, you guessed it, has hairy leaves and stems. This violet tends to flower before any of the other violets - here it is in flower in February!

The spurs are always the same-ish colour as the petals (unless the white variety - see later). And the sepals of this species are very rounded at the ends, quite unlike the long and relative thin but pointed ones of the Dog-Violets.
