Brown Argus Butterfly ♀︎ (Aricia agestis) - Lycaenidae (07/08/2023) Footpath from field to Horton Wood, Small Dole, Henfield, W Sussex. Although in the "Blue" family it has no blue scales. Looks similar to the female Common Blue (Polyommatus icarus) but is smaller (with no blue).
Brown Argus Butterfly ♀︎ (Aricia agestis) - Lycaenidae (07/08/2023) Footpath from field to Horton Wood, Small Dole, Henfield, W Sussex. Males and females look similar but the male abdomen protrudes further than the end of the wings and is kind of squared off at the tip not pointed like this. Plus the males do have some bluish hairs on the body which is furrier, therefore looks fatter, than the femaie. Also male has fainter orange spots on their forewings especially to the front whereas here you can see they continue and are bold to the front.

Small Copper Butterfly ♀︎ (Lycaena phlaeas) - Lycaenidae (28/04/2007) Minsmere Nature Reserve, Suffolk (on some Ground Ivy). Again not in Sussex but we have them here so included for reference. Females and males are very similar but females are larger than males and have more rounded forewings than the slighly pointed ones of males. So I think this is probably a female.
