Jay (Garrulus glandarius) (13/01/2006) Driftway, Upper Beeding, Steyning (in garden on fence post). Unmistakeable. Not easy to tell males and females apart unless they are together - the female being slightly smaller than the male.
Jay (Garrulus glandarius) (13/11/2005) Driftway, Upper Beeding, Steyning (in garden on fence post). Very unusual to get these so close to the garden as they are extremely shy birds. Nothing else quite like them.
Jay (Garrulus glandarius) (13/01/2006) Driftway, Upper Beeding, Steyning (in garden on fence post). Only have one brood per season and both parents are involved in their upbringing. They are quite solitary and have amazing memories - a single jay might bury thousands of acorns in a season and can remember where most of them are. Some they don't and as such Jays are a spreader of oak trees!
